How to Care for Premium Linen: A Simple Guide
Good bedding is an investment, and like any investment, it rewards a bit of care. The good news: premium cotton and TENCEL™ linens don't need anything complicated just a few habits that keep them soft, bright, and lasting for years instead of months.
Washing
Wash your bedding in cool to lukewarm water (around 30–40°C) using a gentle cycle. Hot water can weaken fibers over time and cause colors to fade faster than they should.
Use a mild, liquid detergent rather than a heavy powder, powder detergents can leave residue in the weave, which dulls both the color and the softness over time. Avoid fabric softener: it coats the fibers with a waxy layer that actually reduces breathability, which is the opposite of what you want from good linen.
Wash sheets separately from towels or heavier items. Zippers, hooks, and rough textures can snag delicate weaves.
Drying
Tumble dry on low heat, or better yet, line dry when you can. High heat is one of the fastest ways to shorten the lifespan of any fine fabric it breaks down fibers and can shrink cotton over repeated cycles.
If you tumble dry, remove the linens while still slightly damp and let them finish air-drying. This single habit prevents most of the deep creasing that makes ironing feel like a chore.
Ironing (Optional, But Worth It)
Cotton looks its crispest with a light iron on a warm not hot setting, ideally while the fabric is still a little damp. TENCEL™ rarely needs ironing at all; its fibers naturally resist deep wrinkling, which is one of the small luxuries of the material.
Storage
Store linens in a cool, dry place, ideally in breathable cotton bags rather than sealed plastic. Plastic traps moisture and can lead to a musty smell over time. If you rotate between sets, try to use each one evenly; fabric that rests occasionally tends to hold its shape and softness longer than fabric in constant, exclusive use.
Stain Care
For most everyday marks, treat the stain as soon as possible with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent before washing. Heat can set a stain permanently, so always avoid hot water until you're sure the mark is gone.
A Note for Hospitality Properties
For hotels and villas with frequent turnover, the biggest longevity factor isn't the fabric, it's the laundering process itself. Lower wash temperatures, mild detergents, and avoiding fabric softener in bulk laundry cycles will noticeably extend the life of linen even under heavy, daily use.
